"Bring Back the Bear" Documentary screening Tuesday, April 29th at East Northport Library!
The wait is over! After many months, the East Northport Public Library has welcomed back their Library Bear, now in a durable bronze form. BlueNight Studios was there to interview the participants in this amazing story and document the creation and return of the community icon.
Frank Bono created the original Bear by carving into an old tree stump after the renovation of the East Northport Public Library building. When a chain link fence was discovered inside the old tree, carving had to stop. Frank removed the old tree and used a new log placed on the old stump. From that new log he created the Bear we all know and love today. Unfortunately, after years of standing proudly outside the Library building, a natural deterioration had occured. This prompted the library to replace the wooden sculpture with a new bronze one. The Bear was bronzed by Sculpture House, a foundry located in NYC. Sculpture House removed the wooden statue, made a rubber mold, which in turn was used to make wax mold, which eventually was used to make the final bronze statue. The process is documented in the DVD produced by BlueNight Studios. Thank you to everyone involved with this wonderful project.
